Comparing

prices

Three-bedroom houses

Three-bedroom houses remain the most common type of dwelling in NSW, accounting for 35 per cent of stock in the 2011 Census.

Prices vary dramatically between capital and non-capital city locations, with a median of $1.6 million for Sydney’s Eastern suburbs against

a $220,000 median for the Far West and Orana region. The differences were less pronounced in Canberra, where the number of three-

bedroom houses accounted for 40 per cent of housing stock. South Canberra recorded the highest median price of $830,000, while the

most affordable area was Tuggeranong with a median three-bedroom house price of $427,000.

Price variations between the top and bottom deciles were most pronounced in Sydney, where the City & East recorded a $1.3 million

difference between the most affordable and most expensive segments of the market. The Lower North Shore followed with a $1.3 million

difference. The smallest difference of $195,000 was observed in New England and North West.
